Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a where there is thinning and hence weakening of the bone, which increases the risk of fractures. The most common fractures seen in people with Osteoporosis are hip, wrist and vertebral (spinal) fractures. In Osteoporosis, fractures can be caused by a fall from standing height, or even sometimes a cough and so it is important to prevent this where possible. It mainly affects older, post menopausal women, however other risk factors for developing Osteoporosis include high alcohol consumption, low body weight, smoking, and a family history of Osteoporosis.
